Importance of democracy

Democracy is the government of the people,by the people and for the people. The importance of democracy cannot be denied because of the fact that it is imperative not only for political stability but also economic prosperity of the country. Now we are living in a globalized world. It is not feasible for any country to live in isloation. when a country is ruled by a dictator or a king, the chances of state prosperity alleviates because of the fact that kings prefer their personal interests over public interests. In a democratic set up, policies are made in accordance with the changing internal and external scenarios. For the prosperity of a country, vibrant, dynamic, independent and de politicized state institutions are needed.

Once a party is elected, the prosperity of common men must be the first priority. Adequate performance in human development is required for any country to be at the pinnacle of national glory. In Addition, sincere efforts of the elected members could help people to get constitutional rights. If elected people indulge themselves in corruption and nepotism, the number of people living below povert lives increases with each passing day. Besides, democracy cannot serve its purpose untill parliment is strong and vibrant instituion. Recognizing all the duties, elected people should put their best efforts to work for the prosperity of the country. Other than this, the importance of strong opposition in the the parliment cannot be denied as far as the strengthening of democracy is concerned. Having said this, education should be promoted at all the levels and in every corner of the country to make people realize their rights and duties. If illiteracy rate is high, slipshod policies of the incumbend government could fetch a lot of troubles for the country. if policies are not followed, people are fumed with annoyance and it can paved the way for strikes and dharnas politics. considering the fact that social media has brought much change to the lives of people, people learn lessons from the policies and rules of other counties. Now people do not feel reluctant to criticize the corrupt leaders. In a nutshell, all the elected people should work for the prosperity of people in turn they will get a never ending respect.

  1. I hate to break the news to you, but we are not a democracy. Some states are like California and look at the mess there. Why didn’t our Founding Fathers think about a Democracy? They did and rejected it for what we have a Republic. In a Democracy every votes on the issuea and the majority rules which leads to oppression of the minority. Try researching and offering more than an opinion. You have a good writing style. Just a thought -RJH

    1. Though democratic values are not being followed even in democratic countries, still most of the countries are called democratic. Its a sad reality

      1. Ignore this person. He/she is just trying to pull you into a meaningless argument over semantics. It is a sad fact that some among us like to use words as a cudgel rather than as a method of learning from one another. The Washington Post covered this non-issue quite well in the article here:

        https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/05/13/is-the-united-states-of-america-a-republic-or-a-democracy/?utm_term=.41b17b72bcdd

The author is Eugene Volokh, a conservative professor of law at UCLA. You will find more liberal thinkers saying the same thing about this non-issue. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t let the loudmouths get to you.

      2. I am not trying to argue just present facts. The one that wants to dismiss me is the undemocratic one. Sorry, for the late reply, but had some personal issues to deal with and was not online much. The reason I say we are not a democracy is that we are a Republic. ” The deliberations of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 were held in strict secrecy. Consequently, anxious citizens gathered outside Independence Hall when the proceedings ended in order to learn what had been produced behind closed doors. The answer was provided immediately. A Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.” ” http://www.ourrepubliconline.com/Author/21 Honestly try researching first. The guy dismissing me is just a hater that seems not to be able to think for himself. You seem different even though the I second your comment gives me little doubt. You let him do your homework. Why? https://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/7631-a-republic-if-you-can-keep-it I can keep going all day. I think the Washington Post is a rag and leftist propaganda outfit Please, do not take my word for it. Here are what our Founding Fathers said about it https://www.ranker.com/list/founding-fathers-anti-democracy-quotes/melissa-sartore In a democracy the majority rules. They make the law. Because of that, they will oppress the minorities. In a Republic, all are suppose to be represented. Corruption changes all remember. When our state assemblies quit picking our senators States lost power to the Federal government. This was not how it was originally designed it was changed in the Seventeenth Amendment (Amendment XVII) to the United States Constitution established the popular election of United States Senators by the people of the states. The amendment supersedes Article I, §3, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Constitution, under which senators were elected by state legislatures. This has allowed the Federal government to slowly take states rights away. I hope this was helpful and I am not trying to argue. I hate labels they are designed to divide and I believe in a United America because only then are we strong. #EDUCATEDONTHATE

  2. To Annie: One who relies on scripture or definition to verify an opinion is at the mercy of the writer. These arguments are endless and fruitless. I like your writing and dedication to things and ideas I find important and relevant. Thanks for finding my ramblings and covert ranting.
